Regular Season Round 20: Challans - Angers BC 49 79-65

There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Angers BC 49 (6-12) was defeated on the road by fourteenth ranked Vendee Challans (6-12) 79-65 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 39-23 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Vendee Challans made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Vendee Challans outrebounded Angers BC 49 38-23 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Samir Mekdad (188-86) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lithuanian power forward Petras Balocka (205-86, college: Hawaii) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. Five Vendee Challans players scored in double figures. Swingman Pierre-Etienne Drouault (194-90) produced 16 points and forward SyPir Traore (204-85) added 11 points respectively for the guests. Angers BC 49's coach Vincent Lavandier rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vendee Challans moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with defeated Angers BC 49. Vendee Challans will meet higher ranked Rueil (#10) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Angers BC 49 will have a break next round.
