Second Stage Round 6: Niigata - JX Sunflowers 58-94

WJBL top team - JX Sunflowers (28-0) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Niigata (11-17) in Tokyo 94-58. The game without a history. JX Sunflowers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata's 32. JX Sunflowers forced 22 Niigata turnovers and outrebounded them 46-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Ramu Tokashiki (191-91) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). International Chie Kibayashi (184-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Four JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. JX Sunflowers' coach Kiyomi Sato felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) who recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds and forward Nana Kondo (177-88) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. JX Sunflowers have an impressive 28-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 28-0 record. Niigata lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Denso Iris. JX Sunflowers will meet at home league's second-placed Fujitsu RW in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Niigata will play against Mitsubishi K. (#5) in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
