Regular Season Round 17: Leimen - Trier 89-59

Date: February 16, 2013
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Trier (2-14) was outplayed on the road by eleventh ranked KuSG Leimen (1-15) 89-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by KuSG Leimen. Trier was better in third quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. American guard Johnette Walker (173-87, college: Radford) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists and 5 steals for the winners and forward Martina Kraus (186-90) chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds. Five KuSG Leimen players scored in double figures. American swingman Robin Murphy (185, college: S.Mississippi) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and guard Ulrike Maerz (166) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. Trier's coach Wolfgang Esser was aware about no chance of winning the game, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. KuSG Leimen maintains eleventh place in South with 1-15 record. Loser Trier keeps the tenth position with 14 games lost. KuSG Leimen will face league's leader TV Saarlouis Royals on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
