Top 16 Round 6: Ratiopharm - Unics 77-79

Chuck Eidson nailed two late free throws to give Unics a road win over Ratiopharm Ulm in the final round of action at EuroCup Top 16. The victory meant the Kazan team clinched the top position in Group L. They will now take on Valencia in the quarterfinal series. Ulm finished second in the standings and would take on Uxue Bilbao in the next round. Ulm led by three points after the starting quarter 22:19. Unics slowed the hosts down in the second frame. The Russian team got within just two points at the interval 35:37. Ratiopharm Ulm limited their opponents to 14 points in the third term and opened a 7-point advantage with ten minutes to go. The hosts still led by seven points midway through the fourth frame but Unics ignited a 7:0 run to deny the deficit. The visitors eventually pulled ahead 77:75 within the final minute. Schwethelm however was able to sink two free throws with just two seconds remaining to make it 77:77. Unics handed the ball to Chuck Eidson for a buzzer-beater attempt but he got fouled in the process and calmly hit two from the line to seal the victory for Unics. Eidson finished with 24 points to lead the winners. Terrell Lyday added 20 points for the visitors. Lance Jeter responded with 18 points for Ratiopharm Ulm. Allan Ray notched 16 points in the loss.
