Pioneros de Quintana opened their Liga Americas campaign with victory. They held off Capitanes de Arecibo in Quito. It was a tough battle of two well-matched teams. Pioneros used a 34:22 rally in the fourth frame to eke out victory. The Mexican team held on to a slim 24:23 lead after ten minutes. But Capitanes denied the deficit in the second quarter. The Puerto Rican side pulled in front for a 46:42 halftime advantage. Capitanes extended their advantage in the third quarter. The Puerto Rican side accumulated an 8-point lead heading into the fourth frame 70:62. Pioneros used a 9:2 run early in the fourth frame to pull ahead. They proved more accurate down the line and eked out a tough victory at the end. Matt Robertson and Mike Williams notched 17 points each for Pioneros. Noe Alonzo chipped in 15 points for the winning side. Guillermo Diaz answered with 18 points for Capitanes. Joey Graham had 17 points in the loss.
