Regular Season Round 111: Philadelph.76 - Miami Heat 90-114
Date: February 23, 2013
Dwyane Wade scored 33 points and LeBron James had a triple-double as the 76ers were flattened 114-90 by the Miami Heat on Saturday night before a sellout crowd of 20,665 at the Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers (22-31), who suffered their fourth consecutive loss, dropped to a season-worst nine games under .500 with 29 to play, including today’s game at the New York Knicks. The Heat (39-14) won their 10th game in a row. “That team, when they go to LeBron as a [power forward], is impossible to guard. You can’t guard them,” Sixers coach Doug Collins said.”… They’re poised to make a run at another championship.” Jrue Holiday led the Sixers with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists. Nick Young had 19 points and Evan Turner had 16 points and seven rebounds. Six Miami players finished in double-figure scoring as the Heat shot a season-high 58.4 percent from the field. Philadelphia shot 44.9 percent. James recorded his triple-double (16 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds) with more than 10 minutes remaining in the game. It was his third triple-double of the season. “He’s going to do what he’s going to do,” Sixers forward Evan Turner said. “I thought I stayed in front of him pretty well. … He’s still going to have a great all-around game, and you can’t stop what he does in regards to rebounding or assists. You can try to make it difficult, but he got a few points down in off switches and stuff.” Philadelphia hung around through much of the first half, hitting 7 of its first 8 shots to build a 20-15 lead. But the Sixers trailed 56-47 at halftime despite shooting 57.9 percent from the field. They did not attempt a free throw until four minutes remained in the third quarter. Miami opened its first double-digit lead just minutes into the second half and seemed to effortlessly pull away, pushing its advantage to 20 points by late in the third. They led by as many as 26. “We got careless in the second half,” Collins said. “We started dribbling too much, and then the cross-court passes we talked about not making, we made, and when we did they picked them off and dunked the ball.” Holiday, two games removed from playing in his first All-Star Game, said he feels the season wearing on him. “I wouldn’t say [I’m] fresh at all,” Holiday said. “Again, this is new for me. D-Wade and LeBron both did it, and Chris Bosh, so it’s not like I’m complaining or anything. But seeing them out there and doing what they’re still doing kind of pushes and motivates me.” The Heat outscored the Sixers 18-0 on the fast break and 40-26 in the paint. The Sixers also set an arena record for fewest steals by any team – one. “To get fast breaks, you have to be an instinctive runner,” Collins said. “And we have one, and he’s not playing. Our guys don’t instinctively run. We jog.” Courtesy of: delawareonline.com
