Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked ratiopharm Ulm (15-8) defeated at home 12th ranked BBC Bayreuth (10-14) 88-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by ratiopharm Ulm. BBC Bayreuth was better in fourth quarter 23-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. ratiopharm Ulm made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. BBC Bayreuth was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American center John Bryant (208-87, college: Santa Clara) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import guard Allan Ray (188-84, college: Villanova) contributed with 13 points for the winners. American-Jamaican Bryan Bailey (185-80, college: Bucknell) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and Italian-American forward Joe Trapani (203-88, college: Boston Coll.) added 9 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for BBC Bayreuth. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Despite that victory ratiopharm Ulm went down to fifth position due to points difference. Loser BBC Bayreuth dropped to the thirteenth place with 14 games lost. ratiopharm Ulm will face EnBW Ludwigsburg (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. BBC Bayreuth will play against TBB Trier.
