Very predictable result when second ranked BG Goettingen (17-6) defeated at home 8th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (11-12) 85-79 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. It was a great evening for naturalized American guard Akeem Vargas (191-90, college: Iowa Lakes CC) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 6 rebounds. Greek-American guard Nicholas Livas (198-87, college: Ill.-Springfield) helped adding 14 points and 5 assists. American forward Ayron Hardy (195-88, college: Jacksonville) responded with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and power forward Oliver Komarek (210-86) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four BG Goettingen and five MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. BG Goettingen used an opportunity after Vechta lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Loser MLP Academics Heidelberg keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost. BG Goettingen will face Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against BG Karlsruhe (#5).
