The game was mostly controlled by Thunderbirds. Golden Bears managed to win third quarter 27-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Golden Bears to just 7 points in second quarter. Thunderbirds dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Golden Bears' 28 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Golden Bears 41-20 including a 34-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Thunderbirds looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Golden Bears' players. American forward Brylle Kamen (201, college: San Jose St.) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Isaiah Solomon (183) supported him with 7 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Thunderbirds players scored in double figures. Even 20 points and 6 rebounds by naturalized Kenyan guard Kenneth Otieno (188) did not help to save the game for Golden Bears. Forward Adam Weir (201) added 17 points for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
