Regular Season Round 54: Tulsa 66ers - Iowa E. 95-103

Date: March 7, 2013
With the worst record in the NBA Development League, the Iowa Energy looked for a way to infuse a different spirit into the team for the final month of the season. By signing Alex Ruoff, it appears Iowa may have done just that. Ruoff, signed by Iowa on March 3, led the visiting Energy with 19 points as Iowa won for the first time in four meetings this season against Tulsa, knocking off the 66ers 103-95 before a raucous Kids Day crowd inside the SpiritBank Event Center. Part of Thursday's crowd included more than 2,000 kids from 32 schools. Ruoff was part of the Energy's 53-12 advantage in bench scoring as Central Division rival Iowa (9-31) snapped Tulsa's six-game winning streak. Trailing by as many as seven points early in the fourth period, Tulsa (21-16) tied the game on a pair of free throws by Dominique Sutton with 3:35 remaining. Iowa, however, finished the game on a 10-2 run, with Chris Wright scoring seven of those points, including a momentum-grabbing 3-pointer with 2:15 left. Wright would finish with 18 points, including seven in the fourth quarter. "We missed open shots, we missed layups, and we didn't do a good job with rebounding," lamented Tulsa coach Darko Rajakovic. "Iowa did an amazing job today at the end of the game." Daniel Orton, on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder, finished with a career-high 30 points, going 12-of-15 from the floor, and also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. "Every time he comes to Tulsa, Daniel is getting better," Rajakovic said. "He did an excellent job in the low post and on rebounding." Tulsa led by as many as 10 points early on, but the Energy put together a 9-0 run late in the third quarter to grab a lead it never relinquished. Andy Rautins finished with 13 points for Tulsa, including a pair of 3-pointers as he became Tulsa's single-season leader with 3-pointers made. He now has 119 buckets from behind the arc this season. Rautins and Tulsa, however, had a tough day shooting from long range, finishing 5-of-25 on 3-pointers. Courtesy of: tulsaworld.com
