Twelfth-ranked Ironi Ashkelon (5-15) was very close to win a game against fifth ranked Maccabi Rishon (11-9) in Rishon Le-Zion on Sunday. Maccabi Rishon managed to secure only two-point victory 98-96. However their fans expected much easier game. Maccabi Rishon looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Ironi Ashkelon's players. Jamaican-American power forward Adrian Uter (200-84, college: Hofstra, agency: Gross Zeev ISA) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). American point guard Lazeric Jones (182-90, college: UCLA) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American guard Marque Perry (185-81, college: St.Louis, agency: N.E.T.) replied with 23 points and 6 assists and his fellow American import swingman Jarvis Hayes (201-81, college: Georgia, agency: David Lee services) added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ironi Ashkelon. Four Maccabi Rishon and five Ironi Ashkelon players scored in double figures. Maccabi Rishon have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hapoel J-M. Ironi Ashkelon lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Maccabi Rishon will face Hapoel Holon (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ironi Ashkelon will play against the league's second-placed Maccabi Haifa.
