Regular Season Round 127: Philadelph.76 - Brooklyn N. 106-97

Date: March 11, 2013
Spencer Hawes delivered a career performance as the 76ers snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the Brooklyn Nets 106-97 tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Hawes finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists while shooting 10 for 15 from the field and 4 for 6 from the free throw line. It was the most points, assists and field goals he’s recorded in three seasons in a Sixers uniform. Philadelphia has lost 12 of their last 14 and is nine games behind Milwaukee for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with 19 games to play. The Sixers (24-39) finished with six players in double-figure scoring, including all five starters. Thad Young had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Evan Turner added 16 points and seven boards, Jrue Holiday provided 15 points and 11 assists, and Dorell Wright came off the bench to score 15. Deron Williams had a game-high 27 points and 13 assists to lead the Nets (37-27), who entered the contest on a three-game winning streak. Joe Johnson had 20 points and Brook Lopez added 19. The Sixers were playing their second game in as many nights and the first contest in a four-game homestand that continues Wednesday against Miami. They’ll close the regular season with 12 of their final 16 on the road, where they’ve lost 13 consecutive games since defeating the Lakers on New Year’s Day. The announced crowd of 16,789 fans roared its approval as the Sixers surged from a seven-point first-quarter deficit and retained control for much of the game. Hawes hit a jumper to give the Sixers their first double-digit lead, at 74-64, with 3 minutes to play in the third quarter. The Sixers pushed their advantage to as large as 14 points, at 80-66, a couple of minutes later on a breakaway slam by Wright. Brooklyn closed to within seven points, at 82-75, at the end of the third quarter and to within five points on a number of occasions in the fourth, but proved unable to narrow its deficit any further. The Sixers closed the second quarter on a 10-3 run to take a 53-46 halftime lead. They shot 52.6 percent for the game, compared to 49.4 percent for Brooklyn. Courtesy of: delawareonline.com
