Regular Season Round 132: Portland TB - Detroit P. 112-101

Date: March 16, 2013
The Trail Blazers overcame an 11-point deficit to defeat the Detroit Pistons 112-101 Saturday night at the Rose Garden and improve to 31-34 on the season. It was an All-Star-caliber night for the Blazers' lone All-Star. Despite sitting most of the first quarter with foul trouble, LaMarcus Aldridge was dominant against the Pistons, finishing with 31 points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes. Aldridge scored the first eight Blazers points of the fourth quarter -- setting the tone for a game-clinching final period -- and iced the Blazers' victory with a clutch three-point play with 1:11 left. Aldridge notched his 31st double-double of the season and finished with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds for the 13th time, the second-most in the NBA behind Miami Heat's LeBron James (14). Also, Aldridge on Saturday joined James and Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant as the only players with at least 1,300 points and 500 rebounds this season. Rookie big man Joel Freeland had one of his most productive shifts of the season against the Pistons in the first quarter. When Aldridge drew his second foul 4:47 into the game, coach Terry Stotts turned to Freeland for unexpected minutes and he delivered, making 4 of 6 shots and registering 8 points, two rebounds and one assist in 7 minutes. Among Freeland's highlights were two dunks and a nifty touch pass in transition that resulted in a Nicolas Batum fast-break dunk. Saturday's game was the last of a three-game homestand for the Blazers, who are scheduled to leave Sunday morning for a five-game East Coast trip. The weeklong journey opens Monday in Philadelphia and will feature two back-to-backs -- Philadelphia/Milwaukee and Chicago/Atlanta -- before concluding Sunday in Oklahoma City. The Blazers are 9-23 on the road this season and have the fourth-fewest road wins in the Western Conference. It was a tough Rose Garden return for South Medford-native Kyle Singler. Playing his first NBA game in Portland, Singler finished with just four points and did not record a rebound or assist. Singler was blocked at least three times by Batum -- twice on fast break layups -- and made just 2 of 10 shots. It was a low moment on an otherwise solid rookie season for the native Oregonian, who has started 60 times and entered Saturday's game averaging 8.9 points and 3.9 rebounds. Damian Lillard's dominant late-season individual run ended against the Pistons as he finished with just 14 points and seven assists. Before Saturday night, Lillard had scored at least 20 points in eight consecutive games -- the longest streak by a Blazers rookie since Calvin Natt in 1980. JJ Hickson recorded his 37th double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds. He made 7 of 14 shots. Courtesy of: oregonlive.com
