Regular Season Round 27: Rennes - Chartres 70-57

Date: March 23, 2013
An interesting game took place in Rennes, where 12th ranked Chartres (9-15) lost to fifteenth ranked Union Rennes (6-18) in a road game 57-70. The game was mostly controlled by Union Rennes. Chartres was better in third quarter 17-7. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for Senegalese guard El Kabir Pene (190-84) who led the winners and scored 26 points. American forward Alex Okafor (202-87, college: Princeton) accounted for 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Union Rennes players scored in double figures. Forward Guillaume Merie (198-83) came up with 20 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and naturalized Senegalese power forward Vincent Mendy (204-83) added 8 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Chartres in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Union Rennes maintains fifteenth place with 6-18 record. Chartres lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Union Rennes' next round opponent will be higher ranked Vendee Challans (#14) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
