Regular Season Round 145: N.Orleans H. - Miami Heat 89-108

Date: March 29, 2013
Miami Heat forward LeBron James stood behind the 3-point line like he owned it Friday night at the New Orleans Arena. He opened the game making six consecutive 3-pointers and with that kind of range and accuracy, the Heat had no trouble jumping out to an early 24-point lead and cruising to a 108-89 victory against the New Orleans Hornets in front of a sellout crowd of 18, 647. If the Heat (57-15) came in wanting to make a statement to the rest of the league they s are still going to strive for perfection, despite seeing their 27-game winning streak this past Wednesday with a 101-97 loss to the Chicago Bulls, they met their objective. The defending champion Heat virtually put the game out of reach by halftime when they took a 60-43 lead on 69.7 percent shooting from the field. James scored a game-high 36 points on seven-of-10 shooting from behind the 3-point line. James’ 3-point shooting spree started during the final two minutes of the first quarter when he made three in a row. He didn’t stop there, sinking three more during the opening four minutes of the second quarter. Hornets forward Al Farouq Aminu looked helpless trying to stay in front of James to force him to miss 3-pointers. Beyond his accuracy from his 3-point line, James showcased his playmaking ability and athleticism, soaring a few times for forceful dunks. He had six assists and overall made 13- of- 20 shots. Guard Dwyane Wade finished with 17 points and forward Chris Bosh had 10. The Heat stayed on the attack even when James wasn’t in the game. Wade took over on his drives through the lane. Bosh forced rookie Anthony Davis into foul trouble before scoring 11 points in 29 minutes. Heat attacked even when the lane was crowded with Hornets defenders. Backup point guard guard Norris Cole came off the bench and made his five of six shots for 12 points. The Heat outscored the Hornets 17-4 on fast break points. For most of the game, the Hornets were out of sync offensively and overmatched defensively. When James went out of the game, then Wade took over. The Heat easily got open shots in the lane, taking advantage of pick-and-rolls plays that led to layups. The Hornets guard Eric Gordon was unable to lead the Hornets like James’ led his team, finishing with 17 points but making only three of 11 shots from the field. Gordon opened the game missing his first five shots. Point guard Brian Roberts started in place of Greivis Vasquez, who has a sore right ankle. Roberts had a career-high 18 assists in leading the Hornets’ to a 110-86 victory against the Denver Nuggets that ended their 15-game winning streak. But Roberts wasn’t that kind of playmaker against the Heat, which cut off his drives and forced all of the Hornets to attempt difficult shots.Roberts finished with five assists and scored 13 points.
