Important game to mention about took place in Sendai. Seventh ranked Sendai 89ers (17-26) saved a 3-point victory at home edging 5th ranked Akita Happinets (22-21) 82-79 on Saturday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-20. But Akita Happinets won second period 17-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Sendai 89ers won last quarter 23-22. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Akita Happinets' 30. They outrebounded Akita Happinets 60-28 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sendai 89ers players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American forward T.J. Cummings (205-81, college: UCLA) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 24 rebounds for the winners. American guard Dion Harris (190-85, college: Michigan) answered with 20 points and 4 assists and the former international point guard Yuki Togashi (170-93) added 16 points and 8 assists in the effort for Akita Happinets. Four Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. Sendai 89ers maintains seventh place with 17-26 record. Akita Happinets at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 21 games lost. Sendai 89ers will again play against higher ranked Akita Happinets (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Akita Happinets will have a break next round.
