Regular Season Round 67: Tulsa 66ers - Austin T. 83-99
Date: March 30, 2013
The Tulsa 66ers needed a win on Saturday night to cement their place in the postseason, but the Chris Roberts and the Austin Toros made sure to put their rival's plans on hold. Roberts came off the bench to score 20 points and lead a balanced scoring attack as the Toros logged a 99-83 decision over Tulsa in a key NBA Development League contest before 2,613 fans on Thunder Affiliate Night inside the SpiritBank Event Center. The win was big for Austin as it gave the Toros a 3-2 edge over Tulsa in the season series between the Central Division foes. With both teams sitting at 26-21 and jockeying for postseason position, the tiebreaker could loom large as the season comes to a close next week. "We didn't find our rhythm from the beginning of the game and we were trying to fight back all night long," said Tulsa head coach Darko Rajakovic. "They got easy baskets and easy possessions. They seemed to get every loose ball and we were missing open shots." Tulsa trailed by 13 points at intermission, but started the second half with back-to-back 3-pointers from Oklahoma City Thunder assignee DeAndre Liggins to cut the Austin lead to 53-46 early in the third quarter. Tulsa, however, would get no closer as the visitors pushed its lead back to 13 points thanks to a 10-4 run highlighted by eight points from Roberts. Liggins led Tulsa with 18 points, but would be held scoreless in the final period as the 66ers could never put together a sustained run. Andy Rautins finished with 14 points, including a 2-for-6 mark from behind the arc. His 3-pointer with 7:28 remaining in the contest gave him 144 on the season, earning him the most prolific 3-point shooting season in NBA D-League history. Rautins passed Blake Ahearn (Austin/Dakota), who owned the record with 143 makes in the 2008-09 season. Rautins' historic 3-pointer sliced the Austin advantage to seven points, but the Toros immediately answered with an 8-3 burst to grab back momentum. Tulsa has lost three of its last four games but sits in a solid position to earn its second postseason berth in the last three seasons. Tulsa has three games left, including the regular-season finale at home Saturday against Fort Wayne. Courtesy of: tulsaworld.com
