Regular Season Round 158: Atlanta H. - Milwaukee B. 109-104

Date: April 12, 2013
Atlanta Hawks battled back with a fourth quarter surge to sweep the season-series against the Milwaukee Bucks with a 109-104 home victory and moved up to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings in the same night thanks to the Chicago Bulls losing 97-88 in Toronto on Friday. Josh Smith led Atlanta as he stuffed the stat sheet with 24 points, six rebounds, four steals, three assists, and two blocks, while shooting an efficient 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the field. Jeff Teague and Al Horford each posted monster double-doubles. Teague tallied 24 points and dished out a team-high 10 assists, while shooting 66.7 percent (10-of-15) in the game. Horford had 18 points and 17 rebounds to go with six assists in 43 minutes of action. Devin Harris was also in double-figures with 19 points, while chipping in with five assists, four boards, three steals. Kyle Korver hit a pair of 3-pointers to extend his streak to 72 straight games with a made deep ball. He finished with eights points, five rebound, two steals, one assist and one block. The short-handed Bucks — who were without dynamic point guard Brandon Jennings and shot blocking center Larry Sanders — led by 14 at halftime and extended their edge to 19 early in the third quarter. However, the Hawks started to turn things around soon after and fought back to cut the deficit to seven points by the end of the third. Ivan Johnson hit a jumper and Harris drained a 3-pointer in back-to-back possessions midway through the fourth quarter to spark a 13-0 surge for the Hawks, powering them to a 98-92 lead over Milwaukee with three minutes left in regulation. Atlanta cruised down the stretch for a 109-104 victory. They swept the Bucks in the four-game season-series and handed them their eight straight road loss. Despite the defeat, Monta Ellis was magnificent for Milwaukee in the point guard role as he drained five 3-pointers and tallied 27 points, while dishing out a career-high 17 assists. He also added eight rebounds and five steals in 44 minutes of action. Teammate Ersan Ilyasova also made it rain from deep, pouring in six 3-pointers as he finished with 25 points and seven rebounds. J.J. Redick and Ish Smith chipped in with 10 points each. The Bucks already clinched the eighth and final playoff spot and will play the Heat in the first round of the playoffs. Atlanta moves up a half game ahead of Chicago for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Bulls were in front of the Hawks prior to Friday’s tip-off, but lost in Toronto to fall into the six spot. Which ever teams finishes fifth will play fourth-place Brooklyn in the first round of the playoffs. The #6 seed will face #3 Indiana. Courtesy of: soaringdownsouth.com
