Regular Season Round 8: Cananea - Navolato 72-69

The most exciting game of round 8 in the CIBACOPA took place in Cananea. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Garra Canera de Navolato (4-4) to sixth ranked Mineros de Cananea (4-4) 72-69 in the game for the second place. Mineros de Cananea had a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Rodney Alexander (201-87, college: Oklahoma City) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Todd Brown (196-87, college: Wright St.) who added 18 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) during the contest. Mineros de Cananea's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American swingman Raymond Canady Jr. (201-84, college: Valdosta St.) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds and Andre Martin (-78) scored 22 points and 5 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mineros de Cananea moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Garra Canera de Navolato. Mineros de Cananea is looking forward to face Rayos de Hermosillo (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Garra Canera de Navolato will play against the league's leader Ostioneros de Guaymas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
