Important game to mention about took place in Gunma. Eleventh ranked Gunma (13-37) saved a 3-point victory at home edging higher ranked Hamamatsu Phoenix (27-23) 76-73 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-14. But Hamamatsu Phoenix won second period 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Gunma won last quarter 21-19. Gunma had a 18-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Dominique Keller (203-88, college: Illinois) scored 23 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Jermaine Dixon (191-87, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 17 points during the contest. Worth to mention Keller played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. The best for the losing side was point guard Kevin Galloway (200-88, college: Texas Southern) with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and center Elbert Fuqua (211-83, college: UTSA) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Hamamatsu Phoenix players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Gunma maintains eleventh position with 13-37 record. Loser Hamamatsu Phoenix keeps the sixth place with 23 games lost. Gunma will face higher ranked Chiba Jets (#6) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
