We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 12th ranked Turk Telekom (8-21) lost to thirteenth ranked Mersin (8-20) in Akdeniz 81-89 on Saturday. Turk Telekom was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-10 charge of Mersin, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American guard J.P. Prince (201-87, college: Tennessee) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Alex Scales (192-78, college: Oregon) accounted for 17 points and 7 assists. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Forward Hazer Avci (206-87, agency: Court Side) came up with 18 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American point guard Dee Brown (185-84, college: Illinois, agency: Priority Sports) added 14 points respectively for Turk Telekom in the defeat. Turk Telekom's coach tested twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mersin moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Olin Edirne. Turk Telekom lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fourteenth position with 21 games lost. Mersin will meet at home higher ranked Besiktas (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Turk Telekom will play against the league's leader Galatasaray (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
