Navolato prevailed against Guasave to take 1-0 lead in the series. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 27-20. But Frayles de Guasave won second period 23-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Garra Canera de Navolato players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Frayles de Guasave's players. American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) nailed 27 points and 7 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) accounted for 21 points. Garra Canera de Navolato's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and naturalized American guard Franco Harris (183-83, college: Boise St.) added 21 points respectively for Frayles de Guasave in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
