Preliminary Round Day 1: JAMAICA - CANADA 64-85

Canada recorded victory in the opening game at the FIBA Americas Championship in Venezuela. They held off Jamaica in Group A action. Cory Joseph and Brady Heslip stepped up with 17 points each for the winners. Canada started the game strong. The North American side built a 19:14 lead after ten minutes. Canada maintained the lead throughout the second frame. They opened a 42:25 halftime lead. Jamaica narrowed the deficit in the third term. The Caribbean team got as close as 10 points at the final intermission. But Jamaica ran out of steam in the fourth quarter. Canada went on a 25:14 run to seal the victory. Levon Kendall had 13 points for the winners. Adrian Uter responded with 16 points for Jamaica. Durand Scott and Jerome Jordan had 12 points each in the defeat.
