Preliminary Round Day 2: URUGUAY - JAMAICA 68-66

Uruguay clinched a narrow win at the start of their FIBA Americas Championship campaign. Esteban Batista tipped the ball in late in regulation to bring Uruguay to the win. He finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds to pace the winners. Jamaica fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Uruguay and Jamaica exchanged baskets throughout the opening quarter. The scoreboard read 17:17 after ten minutes. Uruguay pulled ahead in the second frame. They eked out a 34:31 halftime lead. But Jamaica played more aggressive defence in the third term. They held Uruguay to 14 points and erased the deficit. Moreover the Caribbean side entered the fourth frame up by 2 points. The teams entered the final seconds tied at 66. Leandro Garcia Morales missed his late attempt but Esteban Batista came up with a crucial tip in and sealed the win for Uruguay. Leandro Garcia Morales finished with 20 points, while Bruno Fitipaldo added 9 points for the winners. Akeem Scott responded with 18 points for Jamaica. Samardo Samuels topscored with 19 points in the loss.
