Preliminary Round Day 5: BRAZIL - JAMAICA 76-78

Jamaica gained the crucial victory at the FIBA Americas Championship. They held off Brazil in Caracas to secure the Second Round appearance. Brazil in the meantime suffered the fourth straight defeat at the tournament and had to pack their bags. Jamaica eked out an 18:17 lead after ten minutes of action. They stretched the lead in the second frame. The Caribbean team gained a 39:36 halftime lead. But Brazil surged ahead in the third term. They used an 11:3 run to open a 59:49 lead late in the period. Jamaica responded with a 10:0 run of their own to erase the deficit. It all came down to the final stretch in this one. Akeem Scott and Samardo Samuels stepped up for Jamaica in the key moments and sealed the victory. Samardo Samuels finished with 21 points to lead the winners. Oritseweyinmi Efejuku added 16 points, while Durand Scott had 14 points for Jamaica. Vitor Benite and Caio Silveira answered with 12 points apiece for Brazil.
