Argentina proved they are the force to take into account beating Mexico by 20 points in the final game of the preliminary round at 2013 FIBA Americas Championship. The victory allowed Argentina to occupy the top position in Group A. Mexico finished in the second place in the ladder. The teams traded baskets throughout intense first quarter. The scoreboard read 25:25 after ten minutes of action. Argentina stiffened defensively in the second quarter. They held Mexico to 14 points in the period and accumulated a 5-point lead at the interval. Argentina unloaded 26 points in the third period as the margin grew at 12-point mark. Luis Scola carried Argentina to the victory in the fourth stanza. He finished with 25 points for the winners. Selem Safar added 18 points for Argentina. Hector Hernandez answered with 21 points for Mexico. Gustavo Ayon chipped in 19 points in the loss.
