Puerto Rico avenged the loss in the previous round and beat Dominican Republic in the second game between the teams at the FIBA Americas Championship. This time however the stakes were higher. Puerto Rico advanced into the Final with the victory. Carlos Arroyo nailed 20 points to pace Puerto Rico as they would face Mexico for the trophy tonight. Puerto Rico quickly surged ahead in this one. They ensured a 6-point lead after the opening frame. Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico exchanged the baskets throughout the second term. Puerto Rico secured a 6-point lead at the interval. They shifted the gear in the third term. The Puerto Rican side unleashed 25 points in the frame and registered a comfortable 14-point lead heading into the fourth stanza. Dominican Republic narrowed the deficit in the final quarter but could not avoid the defeat at the end. Jose Juan Barea had 16 points and 8 assists, while Renaldo Balkman added 13 points and 14 boards in the win. Eulis Baez answered with 12 points for Dominican Republic. Ronald Ramon chipped in 9 points in the defeat.
