Mexico are the 2013 FIBA Americas champions! They defeated Puerto Rico in the title game in Caracas. Gustavo Ayon stepped up with 20 points and 16 boards to pace the winners. He was named the MVP of the tournament. Mexico recorded a 26:18 lead after the opening quarter. Puerto Rico answered with an aggressive offense in the second term. They erupted for 27 points and cut the deficit 3-point mark at the interval 45:48. Puerto Rico took over in the third term. They denied the deficit and pulled ahead. Puerto Rico ensured a 5-point lead heading into the fourth frame. But Jovan Harris knocked down 7 points early in the final stanza to put Mexico back in charge. Paul Stoll and Gustavo Ayon stepped up for Mexico in the key moments and gave them a late lead. Galindo had a chance to save the game for Puerto Rico but he missed a late triple. Jovan Harris finished with 23 points, while Lorenzo Mata added 14 points for the winners. Carlos Arroyo responded with 23 points for Puerto Rico. Jose Juan Barea had 20 points in the defeat.
