Regular Season Round 1: Tarvas - Valmiera 90-94

Estonian BC Rakvere (1-1) recorded a loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by Latvian Valmiera (1-1) 94-90. It looked good early as BC Rakvere took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Valmiera had a 24-18 second period charge getting the lead and BC Rakvere was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 90-94. Valmiera made 31-of-36 charity shots (86.1 percent) during the game. BC Rakvere was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Janis Kaufmanis (186-89) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!). Guard Raimonds Gabrans (185-84) contributed with 13 points and 5 assists for the winners. Five Valmiera players scored in double figures. Forward Rait Keerles (201-80) answered with 29 points (made all of his seven free throws) and Lithuanian guard Giedrius Gustas (190-80, agency: Interperformances) added 17 points and 5 assists in the effort for BC Rakvere. Valmiera will play against Tln Kalev (#4) in Tallinn in the next round. BC Rakvere will play at home against Rapla to get more than just one victory in their record.
