An interesting game where Maccabi Ashdod (1-0) edged by three points Hapoel Jerusalem (0-1) 83-80 on Sunday night. Hapoel Jerusalem was very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 20-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great shooting night for Maccabi Ashdod especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. American guard Austin Freeman (192-89, college: Georgetown) stepped up and scored 22 points for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Kenny Hayes (188-87, college: Miami, OH, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. At the losing side American swingman Ronald DuPree (201-81, college: LSU, agency: Priority Sports) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and international Elishay Kadir (202-87, agency: Avi Zilberman) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maccabi Ashdod will meet at home GreenTops Netanya (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Hapoel Jerusalem will play against Bnei Hasharon in Hod Hasharon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
