Regular Season Round 5: BC Timisoara - Steaua CSM 87-80

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Steaua CSM (3-2) against ninth ranked BC Timisoara (3-2) on Saturday night. Visiting Steaua CSM was defeated by BC Timisoara in a tough game in Timisoara 80-87. BC Timisoara made 22-of-24 free shots (91.7 percent) during the game. Serbian forward Vladimir Panic (194-82, agency: BeoExcell) nailed 19 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side and Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Volkus (202-85, college: Redlands CC) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists. BC Timisoara's coach Tudor Costescu used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international power forward Virgil Stanescu (208-77, college: S.Alabama, agency: Interperformances) came up with 37 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and Jamaican-Canadian guard Garry Gallimore (192-84) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Steaua CSM in the defeat. Five BC Timisoara and four Steaua CSM players scored in double figures. BC Timisoara moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Steaua CSM. BC Timisoara will meet bottom-ranked Farul Const. (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Steaua CSM will play against the league's second-placed Ploiesti (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
