Very predictable result in Bucuresti where second ranked Ploiesti (5-1) defeated 9th ranked Steaua CSM (3-3) 71-53. The guests were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Ploiesti dominated on the defensive end, holding Steaua CSM to just 7 points in fourth quarter. It was a good game for Finnish-American center Gerald Lee (208-87, college: ODU) who led his team to a victory with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Serbian power forward Dragan Zekovic (210-87, agency: Beo Basket) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Four Ploiesti players scored in double figures. American forward Robert Nyakundi (203-89, college: SMU) replied with 19 points and Jamaican-Canadian guard Garry Gallimore (192-84) added 16 points in the effort for Steaua CSM. Steaua CSM's coach Mladen Jojic rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Ploiesti have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with CSU Sibiu and Oradea. Steaua CSM lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. Ploiesti's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Farul Const. (#14) in Constanca which should be an easy win for them. Steaua CSM will play on the road against Targu Mures (#10) and hope to win that game.
