Regular Season Round 7: Wolfenbuettel - Stade 86-80 OT

Herzoege Wolfenbuettel can celebrate finally their first win this season after six consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Stade (2-5) 86-80 on Sunday. Stade was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 21-15 charge of Herzoege Wolfenbuettel, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 18-12. Stade was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) fired 41 points (!!!) and 7 assists for the winners. His fellow American import guard Demetrius Ward (190-90, college: W.Michigan) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds. Ward is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Herzoege Wolfenbuettel players scored in double figures. American guard Reggie Hopkins (180-88, college: Queens, NC) produced 23 points and 4 steals and center Jan-Christian Both (210-86) added 17 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Stade's coach Benka Barloschky tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel maintains twelfth place in Group North with 1-6 record. It was Stade's fourth loss in a row. They keep the eighth position with five games lost. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel will face higher ranked Bochum (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
