Regular Season Round 18: Atlanta H. - Philadelph.76 113-103
Date: November 15, 2013
This time, the 76ers couldn't complete their comeback attempts. As a result, the Atlanta Hawks held onto a 113-103 victory Friday night here at Philips Arena. With the win, the Hawks improved to 5-4 and have won three of their last four games. The Sixers, meanwhile, dropped to 5-5. The Sixers were able to battle back from large deficits in their five victories. At times, it appeared they would do the same against Atlanta. But the Hawks answered each Sixers' run with a run of their own to pull out the victory. "That's the whole point of playing on the road," Sixers guard James Anderson said. "They kind of got their crowd into it on their runs. You can't do that late in the game, especially let them get their crowd into it." A prime example came when reserve swingman Hollis Thompson had a personal 5-0 run to pull the Sixers within four points (82-78) with 10 minutes, 37 seconds left. But the Hawks responded with a 12-2 run to take 94-80 lead with 6 minutes, 28 seconds remaining. Point guard Jeff Teague scored eight points in the Hawks' decisive run. Atlanta went on to answer all the other Sixers' comeback attempts with timely baskets. "We came close and they're [off in a run]," Sixers coach Brett Brown said. "They fought it out. I'll give the give the guys credit. We just came up short." Teague finished with a game-high 33 points to go with 10 assists. DeMarre Carroll made 5 of 8 three-pointers to en route to adding 21 points. Al Horford finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Evan Turner led the Sixers with 27 points on 10-for-19 shooting. Tony Wroten added 22 points while starting in place Michael Carter-Williams for the second consecutive game. Carter-Williams is out with a left foot arch bruise. Thaddeus Young (17 points) and Spencer Hawes (14) were the Sixers other double-digit scorers. Anderson was held to two points on 1-for-6 shooting. He was 0 for 4 on three-pointers. This performance came two days after he scored a career-high 36 points against the Houston Rockets. The Sixers struggled from the perimeter Friday night, early on. They missed their first seven three-point attempts en route to finishing 1 for 8 in the first quarter. The Hawks built a commanding 11-point lead before Darius Morris hit the Sixers' only three-pointer of the quarter to make it 25-17. The Sixers rallied and took their first lead (37-36) on Tony Wroten's layup with 5:42 left in the half. After two more lead changes, the Sixers took a 56-54 lead into intermission. But the team traded baskets, the Hawks went on a 12-2 run to take a commanding 74-65 cushion in the third quarter. The Sixers made several runs. But Atlanta went on to take a nine-point margin (82-73) into the fourth quarter. But the closest they got was when Thompson pulled them within four points moment later. Courtesy of: philly.com
