Regular Season Round 8: Hertener Loewen - Stade 101-80

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Stade's (2-6) road loss to seventh ranked Hertener Loewen (4-4) 80-101 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Hertener Loewen. Stade was better in fourth quarter 26-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Stade 40-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Hertener Loewen looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Stade's players. The best player for the winners was American center Blake Poole (195-88, college: St.Martin's) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds. The other American import point guard Matt Reid (185-84, college: Cameron) chipped in 26 points and 8 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Four Hertener Loewen players scored in double figures. American guard Reggie Hopkins (180-88, college: Queens, NC) produced 34 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and guard Steffen Kiese (189-87) added 26 points and 6 steals respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hertener Loewen have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position in Group North with 4-4 record. Stade lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth place with six games lost. Hertener Loewen will face Bochum (#8) on the road in the next round. Stade will play against Oldenburg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
