Regular Season Round 3: Santa Cruz W. - Austin T. 117-103

The Santa Cruz Warriors improved to 2-0 on Sunday evening with a 117-103 win over the Austin Toros in front of a capacity crowd at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Santa Cruz was led by Nemanja Nedovic, currently on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, who scored a game-high 31 points, shooting 4-4 from three. Dewayne Dedmon, also on assignment from the Golden State Warriors, logged a double-double with 23 points and a game-high 14 boards, along with a game-high three blocks. Hilton Armstrong, who was added to the roster on Saturday, also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Seth Curry tied a Santa Cruz team record with 11 assists. Austin was paced by Eric Dawson, who scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 37 minutes. Tre Kelley chipped in with 15 points and six assists, while former NBA All-Star Josh Howard finished with eight points in 18 minutes. The Toros held a lead for just the first few minutes of the contest. A Cameron Jones layup with 9:49 left in the first quarter gave the Warriors a 7-6 lead and they never looked back. Santa Cruz led by as many as 23 midway through the fourth quarter, but Austin went on a 12-2 run to close the gap in the final minutes. Santa Cruz shot 48.8% from the field, including 50% from three-point range, compared to Austin's 43.2% from the floor. The Warriors out-rebounded the Toros (51-40), and held the advantage in assists (26-18) and blocks (4-2). Austin edged Santa Cruz in steals (9-6) and committed fewer turnovers (13-17).
