Regular Season Round 8: Maccabi Rishon - Bnei Hertzeliyya 86-80

Bottom-ranked Maccabi Rishon managed to get a second victory, breaking the six-game losing streak on Tuesday night. This time they won against ninth-ranked Bnei Hasharon in Rishon Le-Zion 86-80. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-16. But Bnei Hasharon won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Rishon made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Bryan Hopkins (183-83, college: SMU) who scored 31 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). The other American import forward Tasmin Mitchell (201-86, college: LSU) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. American power forward Jakim Donaldson (204-83, college: Edinboro) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Avi Ben-Chimol (194-85, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Rishon (2-6) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Maccabi.Ashdod. Bnei Hasharon lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with five games lost. They share it with Galil Gilboa. Maccabi Rishon will meet higher ranked Hapoel Eilat (#5) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bnei Hasharon will play against Hapoel Holon (#6) and hope to secure a win.
