DeAndre Thomas finished with 21 points and added 15 rebounds as the Windsor Express defeated the Ottawa SkyHawks 88-85 in the NBL of Canada Sunday night at the WFCU Centre. Quinnel Brown also netted 21 points and the league’s leading scorer Stefan Bonneu chipped in with 18 for the Express, who moved into third place in the Central Division with the victory. “We played well in the first quarter and then we relaxed and let them back in it,” Express head coach Bill Jones said. “In the second half we played better and were able to withstand their attack.” Papa Oppong went 2-for-4 from three-point range to finish with 12 points while Darren Duncan rounded out the top scorers with 10 points along with 12 assists. Jones continues to be impressed by the play of Bonneau, who leads the NBL of Canada in scoring with 24.22 points per game. “Stefan Bonneau is a special player for us,” he said. “I’m allowing him to play his game and it’s worked out so far.” The Express hit the road for a pair of games Wednesday in Mississauga and Saturday in London. Both games begin at 7 p.m. “These games are key because their division games,” Jones said. “It’s always a dogfight against the rivals. It’s still early and it’s a long season.
