Regular Season Round 9: Besiktas - Mersin 85-78

Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Mersin (1-8) lost to tenth ranked Besiktas (4-5) in Istanbul 78-85. Mersin was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Besiktas made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Mersin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Chris Lofton (188-86, college: Tennessee, agency: Allegiant Athletic Agency) who scored 22 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Bradley Buckman (203-84, college: Texas) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American-Lebanese swingman Antwain Barbour (196-82, college: Kentucky, agency: Three Eye Sports) who recorded 20 points and 9 rebounds and American point guard Jordan Theodore (182-89, college: Seton Hall) added 17 points and 5 assists respectively. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. Mersin's coach Mete Babaoglu rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Besiktas moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Turk Telekom. Mersin lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. Besiktas' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Anadolu Efes in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mersin will play at home against Aliaga (#13) and hope to win that game.
