Regular Season Round 13: TuRi - Huima 108-78
Date: December 14, 2013
Bottom-ranked TuRi managed to get a third victory, breaking the series of eight consecutive loses. This time they outleveled fifth-ranked Aanekosken in Turku 108-78. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 30-point difference suggests that TuRi is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. It looked good early as Aanekosken took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then TuRi had a 35-20 second period charge getting the lead and Aanekosken was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-108. TuRi dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Aanekosken's 44. TuRi forced 31 Aanekosken turnovers and had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard La'Keisha Sutton (175-90, college: S.Carolina) nailed 26 points and 7 assists for the winning side and Spanish guard Arrate Agirre (174-93) accounted for 21 points and 5 steals. Five TuRi players scored in double figures. TuRi's coach Jukka Valpola felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Lonniya Bragg (182-79, college: Arkansas) came up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and the other American import guard Jordan Madden (183-90, college: Baylor, agency: LBM Management) added 14 points respectively for Aanekosken in the defeat. TuRi (3-9) moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Kerava. Aanekosken lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with six games lost. TuRi will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Aanekosken will play on the road against Kerava Energia Team (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
