Regular Season Round 59: Washington W. - Detroit P. 106-82

Date: December 28, 2013
John Wall had 20 points and 11 assists, Marcin Gortat added 16 points, and the Washington Wizards routed the Detroit Pistons 106-82 on Saturday night. Trevor Ariza and Bradley Beal each added 15 points for Washington, which snapped a three-game home losing streak and has won four of its last five overall. One night after their worst defeat of the season, a 22-point loss at Minnesota, the Wizards never trailed, pulling away late in the first half en route to their biggest win. Greg Monroe scored 14 points and Brandon Jennings had 13 for Detroit, which has dropped four of five. Beal, who left Friday's loss with what was later determined to be a bruised left knee, started and played 20 minutes. The Wizards took an 11-point lead in the first quarter as Gortat scored 10 points in the period. Detroit pulled within 42-37 midway through the second quarter on a basket by Will Bynum, but Washington went on a 20-4 run to end the half, capped by two 3-pointers from Beal and a reverse dunk by Wall. Beal and Wall had 10 points apiece in the quarter, and Washington scored a season-high 62 points in the first half. The Pistons went scoreless for the final 4:53 of the quarter and shot 37 percent for the half. Washington meanwhile, hit 25 of 44 field goals (57 percent) in the first 24 minutes. Detroit got no closer than 19 points in the second half and the Wizards led by as many as 28. Wall has scored 20 or more points in a career-high six consecutive games and it was his 10th double-double of the season. Beal had to be helped off the court in the fourth quarter of Friday's loss at Minnesota after colliding with Wolves forward Luc Mbah a Moute. An MRI Saturday was negative. "He's fine. Everything checked out good today," Washington coach Randy Wittman said before the game. "He's got a bruise from banging knees." Beal, who came in averaging 19.2 points, missed nine games this season with a stress fracture in his right leg. Courtesy of: missoulian.com
