Regular Season Round 63: Washington W. - Dallas M. 78-87

Date: January 1, 2014
Monta Ellis scored 23 points Wednesday night to lead the Dallas Mavericks to an 87-78 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center. It's the fewest points the Mavs have allowed in a game this season. After earlier wins at Chicago and Minnesota, the Mavs went 3-0 on this road trip and stretched their record to 19-13. It marked the first time the Mavs went 3-0 on a road trip since they beat Washington, Toronto and Philadelphia from Feb. 26-Mar. 1, 2011 A pair of free throws by DeJuan Blair gave the Mavs some breathing room and padded their lead to 81-76 with 23.8 seconds left. Blair was fouled intentionally after he grabbed an offensive rebound following a missed jumper by Monta Ellis. After John Wall's basket, Ellis buried two free throws to push the Mavs' lead back up to five (83-78) with 17.9 seconds to go. It's the first time the Mavs won at least three games on a road trip since they won three of four games during a four-game road trip from Mar. 8-14, 2013. On that trip the Mavs won the first three games at Detroit, Minnesota and Milwaukee before losing at San Antonio. The Mavs trailed 42-39 at the half Wednesday in a game that crawled along at a snail's pace, but finished the game on a 14-4 run. Besides Ellis, the Mavs got 13 points from Vince Carter, 11 from Jose Calderon and 10 from Brandan Wright. John Wall led the Wizards with 22 points, and Trevor Booker finished with 10 points and 19 rebounds. Courtesy of: star-telegram.com
