Regular Season Round 20: Windsor Exp. - London L. 82-93

Date: January 1, 2014
It was one of those games that could have gone either way for the London Lightning. Playing host to conference rivals, the Windsor Express at Budweiser Gardens on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 1), London managed to battle their way back from a third quarter deficit to post their sixth win in a row, coming out on top of a 93-82 decision. The last time these two teams met back on Dec. 7, it was the Express heading back down the 401 with the two points after a 117-111 victory. For a time Wednesday, it looked like they might be doing that again. Trailing London 22-13 after the first quarter, Windsor dominated play in the second and third quarters, out pacing the Lightning on the scoreboard by 15 points to take a 61-55 lead into the final frame. But it wasn’t long though until the Lightning’s big guns — Garrett Williamson, Tony Bennett and Marvin Phillips — stepped up their game, zeroed the range and started raining down points on the Express basket to come from behind and pull out the win. Bennett lead the way for London with 22 points, followed Phillips and Williamson who counted for 21 and 16 points respectively. Phillips also came up big under the net, battling his way under the basket for 11 rebounds. The Lightning hit the road on Saturday (Jan. 4) for a date with the Brampton A’s at the Powerade Centre before retuning to Budweiser Gardens the next day, playing host to the Ottawa Skyhawks.
