Regular Season Round 34: Springfield A. - Tulsa 66ers 75-102
Date: January 3, 2014
The Springfield Armor couldn’t find their way around the Tulsa 66ers Friday night, dropping an ugly 102-75 decision to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s D-League affiliate. It was the second-largest margin of defeat for 3-11 Springfield, which never led and shot a season-low 35.5 percent. The 66ers (3-13) have been having their own hard times, but they managed to put together a dominant performance, leaving the Armor 41 points in the dust during the third quarter. The Armor trailed 38-17 after one. Mario Little tallied 23 points, Grant Jerrett 20 and Xavier Alexander 19 for Tulsa. Little, who struggled in the first half, was surprised he had a good outing. His family from Fitchburg was in the stands and he doesn’t usually play well when they’re in attendance. “They came to try to surprise me, but I already knew they (were) coming, so I had to act like I was surprised,” he said. “The first half, I didn’t do well, but the second half, I got off to a good start and that kind of took the pressure off.” Little was right. While Jerrett was lighting it from 3-point territory before the break (5 for 5), Little was just 1 for 5. “We came out with energy in the first quarter,” Little said. “Tonight it worked well and we kind of stuck with it until the fourth quarter.” Darius Johnson-Odom, signed prior to the game, made the biggest impact for Springfield with 16 points, including 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. Consistent contributors Dennis Horner and Willie Reed underwhelmed, missing shots they usually make. Horner was just 1 for 6 for five points. Sloppy plays, missed passes and tough shots – as well as strong defensive rebounding by the Sixers – all contributed to the Armor’s demise. The Armor are off to the D-League Showcase in Reno, Nev., where they’ll face Reno and Iowa, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Courtesy of: masslive.com
