Regular Season Round 30: Abejas - Pioneros 81-90

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Guanajuato. Second ranked Pioneros faced one of their biggest challengers Abejas. Guests from Cancun (21-7) defeated host Abejas (19-8) 90-81. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Abejas. It looked good early as Abejas took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pioneros had a 23-9 second period charge getting the lead and Abejas were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-90. Abejas were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Roman Andrade (188, college: N.Mexico Highlands) added 19 points and 4 assists in the effort for Abejas. Pioneros maintains second position with 21-7 record having just two points less than leader Halc.Rojos. Abejas at the other side keep the third place with eight games lost. Pioneros will play against league's leader Halcones Rojos in Veracruz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Abejas will play on the road against Correcaminos in Ciudad Victoria and hope to get back on the winning track.
