Regular Season Round 37: Ft.Wayne MA - Austin T. 90-119

Date: January 10, 2014
The Austin Toros took it to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants from the tip tonight and got an impressive 119-90 road win Friday evening in Fort Wayne. The Toros were led by Spurs assignee Nando De Colo’s 22 points. The Toros jumped out to a 20-11 first quarter lead off a hot start by De Colo and fellow Spurs player Malcolm Thomas. Both had 8 points in that stretch, with De Colo doing his work from the outside and Thomas doing his work on the inside. It was clear that the Toros were a step quicker than the Ants during this quarter, and Austin continued that trend throughout the rest of the game. The lead got as high as 31 points for Austin in the third quarter when Charlie Westbrook, who contributed a strong 15 points off the bench, hit a three to push the score to 96-65. The Mad Ants flirted with a come back at the start of the fourth quarter when they got two quick jumpers from Memphis Grizzlies’ assignee Jamaal Franklin and Kyle Randall, but the Toros quickly answered with 6-0 run of their own to put an end to it, and it was garbage time from there. The Toros had a well balanced attack with seven players in double figures. Besides De Colo’s 22 points, Courtney Fells scored 16, Malcolm Thomas had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Eric Dawson had 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Mad Ants were led by Ron Howard’s 18 points, Ramon Harris’ 17 points, and Tony Mitchell’s 14 points. Courtesy of: wane.com
