Regular Season Round 13: Taipans - Hawks 79-82

The most exciting game of round 13 in the NBL took place in Cairns. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th placed Cairns Taipans (6-10) to seventh ranked Wollongong Hawks (6-9) 82-79 in the game for the fifth place. The guests trailed by 13 points at the halftime before their 27-10 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Wollongong Hawks made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. The former international forward Oscar Forman (205-82) fired 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Kevin Tiggs (193-84, college: E.Tenn.St.) chipped in 20 points. Four Wollongong Hawks players scored in double figures. American guard Demetri McCamey (191-89, college: Illinois) produced 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and international swingman Clint Steindl (200-89, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Wollongong Hawks moved-up to fifth place. Cairns Taipans at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Breakers. Wollongong Hawks will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cairns Taipans will play again on the road against Wollongong Hawks (#5) in Gwynneville and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
