Regular Season Round 24: London L. - Moncton M. 99-91

Date: January 12, 2014
The London Lightning made it four in a row Sunday, beating the Moncton Miracles 99-91 on the road. The win advanced the Lightning’s record to 17-6 as they hang on as the first place team in the National Basketball League of Canada. London earned top spot in Thursday’s win over the Brampton A’s and haven’t taken their foot off the gas since — winning a 121-119 overtime match against The Island Storm in Charlottetown, P.E.I., on Saturday. Marvin Phillips and Garrett Williamson were Sunday’s top scorers, both contributing 23 points. Phillips also led London in rebounds with nine while Williamson earned a team-leading 11 assists. The Lightning outscored the Miracles by a combined 15 points in the first and fourth quarters. The second went to Moncton as they earned 27 to London’s 20. The teams tied with 24 points each in the third. “We are proud of how our guys played on our first major road trip this season,” Lightning general manager Taylor Brown said, calling the match “a tough win against a strong” challenger. Now, he said, the team’s turning its attention to its Highway 401 rivals, the Windsor Express. The teams play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Windsor. “Wednesday is going to be a battle,” Brown said. Next home game for the Lightning is Jan. 22 against the Ottawa Skyhawks.
