There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Hagen Phoenix (7-6) beat at home higher ranked BG 74 Veilchen (7-6) 70-54 on Saturday. The game without a history. Hagen Phoenix led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Hagen Phoenix forced 26 BG 74 Veilchen turnovers. BG 74 Veilchen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Erica Hayes (170, college: Dixie St.) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 7 rebounds. Swingman Elina Stahmeyer (180-91) contributed with 8 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Polish forward Klaudia Grudzien (183-90) answered with 16 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Rickiesha Bryant (190-90, college: Tenn-Martin) added 9 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for BG 74 Veilchen. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hagen Phoenix moved-up to fifth place in North, which they share with Gruenberg and BG 74 Veilchen. Hagen Phoenix will face Hannover (#8) on the road in the next round. BG 74 Veilchen will play against Braunschweig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
