Regular Season Round 31: Oita H.Devils - Iwate Big Bulls 56-61

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Oita. Fourth ranked Iwate Big Bulls faced 4th placed Oita Heat Devils. Guests from Iwate (18-7) defeated host Oita Heat Devils (14-13) 61-56. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 12-8. But Oita Heat Devils won second period 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Iwate Big Bulls brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Panamanian forward Leonardo Pomare (203-86, college: San Diego) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) contributed with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 blocks for the winners. Blackledge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) answered with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Taishiro Shimizu (183-81) added 14 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Oita Heat Devils. Four Oita Heat Devils players scored in double figures. Iwate Big Bulls have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Shinshu BW. Oita Heat Devils lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 13 games lost. Iwate Big Bulls will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Oita Heat Devils will play again at home against Iwate Big Bulls (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
